Our mission as a department is to enhance the quality of life for all residents of Compton by providing access to clean and safe recreational facilities that support diverse youth, adult, and senior programs. Our aim is to deliver professional, courteous, and responsive service to an ever-changing and growing community.

About Us
The Recreation Department provides programs and facilities that support the community’s diverse interests in parks, recreation, and culture. Core services are offered throughout the City to ensure access for residents of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens. The Department’s core service areas include Administration and Planning, Recreation Services for youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
The City of Compton Recreation Department operates and maintains sixteen (16) parks totaling 118 acres. Facilities include six community centers, seven neighborhood parks, two walking parks, two aquatic centers, three regulation-size gymnasiums, a skate park, Jackie Robinson Baseball Stadium, and the Douglas F. Dollarhide Community Center.
The Recreation Department offers a full range of recreation and leisure-time programs and activities. The Douglas F. Dollarhide Community Center operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Other community centers typically operate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please see the program and event guide below for each center’s hours of operation.

Every season, the Recreation Department publishes a guide to help the community learn about the various programs and events happening at our local parks. This brochure has something for everyone—youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
